What We Do
"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." — Frederick Douglass
Since 1999, Literacy for Leadership has done our utmost to make a difference in the lives of those marginalized by low literacy skills in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Our literacy programs provide opportunity for children, youth and adults to experience the joy of reading. As we teach reading we instill in each learner the potential for change, hope and freedom that comes with literacy.
Through community Reading Centres we help people break the cycle of illiteracy and give them hope for a better tomorrow.
Vulnerable children are helped through Reading Centres operating in their schools and churches.
Since 1999 Literacy for Leadership has been encouraging and preparing readers to become leaders of influence that share the joy of reading and the truth of God’s Word with their communities.
Through our leadership projects we provide quality teaching and support. We believe effective discipleship requires literacy. We believe in the power of the local church to make a difference in their communities.
Leaders who catch the vision have the opportunity to work as staff in our Reading Centres. We take young leaders and inspire confidence in them as they inspire confidence in the students they tutor at the Reading Centres.
Through this work, lives are changed – value is restored – freedom is found; because “once you learn to read – you will be forever free”. Frederick Douglass
